Bologna: What to Do and Where to Go?

Posted on 07 April 2019 by admin (0)

Bologna might not be as popular as Venice or Florence but is definitely an exciting place to spend your vacation. The best part of this city is that it is highly affordable. You will feel warm that the city has to offer all throughout your stay. If you are visiting Bologna for the first time, there are a few things that you need to do.

Piazza Maggiore

This is at the heart of the city and is a significant historical place. There many buildings in here that are crucial to the history of the state like Basilica di San Petronio, the Palazzo del Podesta, and many more. Towards the northwestern part, I found Piazza del Nettuno where there is the Fountain of Neptune. Visit different basilicas and palaces. Marvel at the perfect architecture.

The Leaning Towers

Yes, the popular tower of Pisa isn’t the only leaning tower. You will find a pair in Bologna, too. There are many towers in the city but the ones standing in Piazza di Porta Ravegnana is a legendary one. Garisenda and Asinelli are the 2 tall towers which stand next to each other. These have been named after the two most important families of Italy. I climbed up to the tower to enjoy the magnificent view it has to offer.

San Petronio

This is the tenth largest church in the world. The gothic design of the church looks spectacular. The incomplete front façade and the large size make it popular among the visitors. The inside of the church has a unique design. The brick columns have decoration. What grabbed my attention was the main altar. It is stunning to look at.

This is a stunning structure of the city. Housing the Anatomical Theatre, this piece of architecture is amazing in its own way. Made out of wood, it has statues of popular medical practitioners.
